After meeting with this customer, she indicated that she wanted help with designing a rustic modern bathroom for her vintage Chicago condo in the Logan Square neighborhood. We immediately knew that we wanted to bring in warm yet modern elements to compliment the client’s wide variety of artwork.
Stained Oak Floating Vanity
Since we knew that we wanted to go with a modern rustic vibe for this bathroom renovation project, we started off with selecting a white stained oak floating vanity. The modern vanity was floated on the wall to help keep the bathroom feeling open. Large 13″x20″ porcelain tile in a striated grey, leather finish help ground the space while a contrasting light grout helps make the geometric shape of the tiles “pop” in the space.
Small Space, Big Statement
Due to the small footprint of the bathroom, we were not able to fit double bowls. Instead, we selected a modern vanity that had a single large bowl. This created a nice visual focal point in the modern rustic bathroom while offering a larger bowl for tending to your bathroom needs. A large shelf made of salvaged wood was installed below the mirror and runs the entire length of the powder room. The strong horizontal line helps make the room feel larger. The exposed oil rubbed bronze hardware not only adds support for the shelf, but adds a bit of character.
Get Creative With Your Artwork Selection
Artwork can make or break a space, and many people skip on this part of their bathroom renovation project. For this modern rustic bathroom project, we installed various pieces of framed artwork and found objects add whimsy to the bathroom. This gives guests using this powder room something to look at and enjoy while visiting.
Let The Accessories Tell Your Story
Found objects and other artifacts from the home owners travel add visual interest to the powder room. We often place items in unusual locations because it adds intrigue to a space. Charm is hard to quantify and that’s one of the many things a designer can help impart to a project. This modern rustic bathroom is heavy on charm!
